Basic Criteria:
- Age is between 18 and 75 years old.
- Triglyceride levels (fats in your blood) are between 175 and 499, measured twice at least 7 days apart.
- LDL (bad cholesterol) levels are between 50 and 130, after being on cholesterol medication for at least 4 weeks (if needed).
- Following a stable diet for at least 3 months with no plans to change.
- Be on lipid-lowering therapies for more than 4 weeks
- Women who can get pregnant and all men agree to use birth control during the study.
Answer must be NO:
- Are you currently in another research study?
- Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?
- Do you have Type 1 diabetes or a history of serious diabetic complications (diabetic ketoacidosis)?
- Do you have serious liver problems (like cirrhosis) or bleeding from ruptured veins in your stomach or esophagus?
- Have you had cancer in the last 3 years? (Skin cancers like basal cell or squamous cell may be okay.)
- Do you have active infections like HIV or Hepatitis?
- Have you had recent heart surgery? (Stent within 3 months or bypass within 6 months)
- Have you had surgery in the last 10 weeks, or planning surgery soon?
Answer be YES:
- Are you between 18 and 75 years old?
- Have your triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels been tested and found to be within the required range?
- Have you been following a stable diet and taking the same medications for the required amount of time?
