Pneumonia Vaccine Self-Scheduler

Basic Criteria 

Age Requirements: 

• Must be 65 years or older
• Must have never received a pneumonia vaccine OR
• Must have received one at least 5 years ago (documentation required if previously vaccinated)
  • The only acceptable brand of previously received pneumonia vaccine is PPSV23
    • Must bring last 5 years of vaccine records if unsure of the brand of pneumonia vaccine received
• Chronic condicionts (diabetes, depression, etc.), must be stable with no medication changes or hospitalizations for at least 12 weeks

Answers Must Be NO 

1. Have you received any vaccines in the past 28 days? 
2. Do you currently have a fever of 100.4°F or higher, or are you experiencing an acute illness? 
3. Have you participated in any other research studies in the past 28 days? 
4. Do you drink more than 21 alcoholic drinks per week (if male) or more than 14 alcoholic drinks per week (if female)? 
5. If you are female, are you currently pregnant or nursing? 
6. Have you received any immunosuppressive therapy including corticosteroids (steroids) in the past 28 days? (Note: Inhaled, joint injection, and topical steroids are okay) 
7. Have you received any blood products, plasma, or immunoglobulin treatments within the past 60 days? 
8. If you have any psychiatric conditions (depression, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, etc.), have you been unstable on your medication or had medication changes in the past 90 days? 
9. Have you had thoughts of suicide or self-harm within the past year? 
10. In the past year, have you used or abused any illegal substances (marijuana, illegal drugs, etc.)? 
11. Have you ever had a severe adverse reaction to any vaccine? 
12. Are you immuno-compromised (have a weakened immune system due to illness or medication)? 
13. Do you have a bleeding disorder that would be affected by getting a shot in your arm? 
14. Have you ever been diagnosed with Streptococcus pneumonia (a specific type of pneumonia infection)? 
15. Have you been diagnosed with severe psychiatric conditions such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia? 
16. Do you have any of these severe chronic conditions: metastatic cancer, COPD requiring oxygen, end-stage kidney disease (with or without dialysis), cirrhosis of the liver, or clinically unstable heart disease? 
17. Are you missing your spleen (had it surgically removed)? 

Answers Must Be YES 

1. Are you willing and able to comply with all scheduled visits and study procedures over the 6 months? 
2. Will you be available for the entire duration of the study (6 months)? 
3. If you have any psychiatric conditions (depression, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, etc.), are you currently on stable medication for at least 90 days? 
4. If you are a woman who could become pregnant, are you using highly effective birth control (birth control pills, IUD, implant, sterilization) and willing to continue for at least 28 days after your last study dose? 
5. If you have any chronic conditions, have you been stable (no changes in medication or hospitalizations) for the past 12 weeks (about 3 months)? 
6. If you are a man with female partners who could become pregnant, are you willing to use effective contraception (condoms plus highly effective method for partner) for at least 28 days after your last study dose? 
7. Must have a smart phone and be able to download app from store. If they do not own a smartphone, they must be comfortable with using a smart phone.   
8. Are you comfortable with blood draws?
